COMPUTERISED CAREERS GUIDANCE SOFTWARE
KUDOS: CAREER IDEAS AND INFORMATION
Kudos is a computer programme which gives students career ideas and
informastion. It
- provides instant access to information on over 600 different careers
- produces a personalized list of career suggestions based on questions about interests
and expected/actual qualifications
- allows students to change reasponses to produce a revised list of career ideas
- allows students to change save and print information for future reference
Grampian Careers has developed KUDOS IN SCOTLAND, which is well-established and used
extensively in schools.
KUDOS AND JIIG-CAL
Schools in Aberdeen and Grampian Careers use KUDOS for careers education and
guidance, where previously they used microDoors and JIIG-CAL. There is
much to be said for the use of KUDOS, particularly as it has been produced
jointly, as a Scottish venture, by CASCAID and Grampian Careers. It is an excellent
package, already being used successfully by careers advisers in the Aberdeen, and some
schools have already started to use the package too. Use of the same package by schools
and careers advisers has much to recommend it. The annual subscription for KUDOS
is £144 per year.

There was some uncertainty about the future of JIIG-CAL, but a Surrey-based
company, Progressions Ltd, is now working in partnership with JIIG-CAL so that
the current software can be supported. JIIG-CAL Pathfinder (for S3/S4), which is currently
available in schools, can only be used on payment of the annual subscription
of £160.

CAREERSCAPE
The Scottish version of Careerscape is now available. It is an instant access
database containing comprehensive careers information as well as information on education,
training and employment. Subscribers to KUDOS in the financial year 1998-1999 will
receive a free copy
FOTOFILE
This is a picture database on CD-ROM that has been produced exclusively
for use with Kudos, Careerscape and Adult Directions. It provides an attractive and
colourful picture library of people at work and links directly to the databases in the
other programmes.
PAWS IN JOBLAND
This is a package produced for primary school pupils.
