PROBATIONER CPD ENTERPRISE DAY FEBRUARY 2008

At the Probationer Day which focused on Enterprise, a group of P6 pupils from Holy Family RC Primary gave a presentation which covered some of the Enterprise activities they had organised within school. Also at the event were children from our P4/5 class who demonstrated activities from the Apodo resource, with these pupils then leading Probationers in group tasks.

The pupils themselves remarked that although they were nervous to begin with, by the end, they were very proud of themselves and they could not believe, ”teachers were sitting quietly listening to us.”

Feedback from parents was so positive with all saying, that it was wonderful to watch, because the children were so confident and that they could not have spoken in front of such a large adult audience. Parents also liked being included and said they had often wondered what happened at teachers’ training events.

Miss Lennon and Miss Christie, Class Teachers, commented that since the event the self esteem and the confidence of the pupils have grown.

The P5/6 class have now taken on board the running of a School Bank and have successfully organised our school’s first Fashion Show.

Mrs Hagan, Head Teacher, felt that the event demonstrated the clear links between Enterprise and A Curriculum for Excellence. It was a perfect opportunity for our pupils to show their skills and abilities. They were so excited they were, ”Teaching the Teachers.”

In school we have found that our Enterprise activities have meaningfully engaged our pupils, staff and parents in working together and this event reinforced this dimension.

FUND-RAISING FOR COLOMBIAN CHILDREN
We have recently been involved in a fund-raising initiative for Colombian Children following a visit from a priest who works out in Colombia with a charity entitled "Let the Children Live"

The pupils brought money to school every day for two weeks following the visit.

Our prefect body then suggested having a baking sale and they organised the advertising, approached staff about the idea and helped to run the sale which generated so much interest and contributions that they had to run it over two weeks.

Another member of staff brought in a tin of sweets which is being raffled by pupils this week and contributions are still steadily coming in.

We hope to invite a member of the charity to revisit the school at an assembly to accept our final cheque..
