Autism Outreach
Team
The Autism Outreach service
is based at Beechwood School. There are three full-time teachers in
the team who cover all local authority schools in the city of
Aberdeen including nursery and special schools. Pupils with a
diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder can be referred to the
service with the permission of parents and the Education Psychology
Service. Referral forms are available on-line or from the Autism
Outreach Team at Beechwood School.
The role of the team is to
meet the varying educational, personal and social needs of the
children on our caseload. This is achieved by supporting members of
staff, both teaching and non-teaching, who are responsible for the
children whilst they are in school. This support offered can be
through consultation, working with pupils or providing staff
training relevant to working with pupils who are on the Autistic
Spectrum. At times of transition from one sector to another or
between schools, the team can provide a valuable link between the
sectors thus enabling continuity in the management of the pupil.
Advice and support is offered to parents, as and when requested, on
issues that are relevant to their child.
The team can be contacted at
Beechwood School (01224 238750) or by e-mail.
