Since the introduction of the 5 - 14 ICT Guidelines many more schools have the facility to both take and edit digital video.

There are two main pieces of software which can be used on a PC. These are Pinnacle Studio and Movie Maker. All Windows XP machines come with Movie Maker  pre-installed.

It is possible to create movies from both digital video clips and still images.

Film Education Promotional Materials
Some of the free promotional CD-ROMS which are sent to schools by Film Education (www.filmeducation.org) to promote new films contain video editing activities e.g.

Christmas Carol CD contains activities on changing text from the book to script, creating background music to fit the mood of the clip and choosing colour to influence the mood of the piece.

The RugRats Movie CD contains an activity on creating a scene from the film.

Two Brothers CD contains an activity where the children recreate a scene from the script. This involves dragging clips onto a storyboard and adding sound clips.

If you do not already receive these promotional materials you can request them from www.filmeducation.org. This site also contains useful teaching materials.
