see also www.infoscotland.com/childprotection

ChildProtectionLine is a single national line which has the capacity to transfer relevant calls to all local child protection service providers in Scotland.  It also provides an information service to the public about what steps they can take if they are concerned about a child.

You can speak to a trained call handler at any time of day or night.  They will listen closely and sensitively to the inquiry and, depending on the nature of the call, will do one of the following things:

  • Transfer the call to a local agency

  • Give local agency's phone number to the caller, if they cannot get an answer

  • Provide the caller with information

  • If the call takes place when it is clear to the ChildProtectionLine adviser that a very concerning incident is taking place in the background, or it appears that it might take place imminently, the call will be transferred to 999 where police services will thereafter handle the call in exactly the manner they would if the caller had rung them directly

  • If the call is obviously misdirected then the caller will be transferred to the service that can best answer that kind of inquiry

  • If the call can best be handled by skilled child protection counsellors, the call will be transferred to ChildLine or ParentLine

If you are being bullied, you can call the bullying line on 0800 44 1111

respectme, Scotland's Anti-Bullying Service was launched in March 2007. respectme is a Scottish Executive funded service managed by SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health), in partnership with LGBT Youth Scotland.

Their work is driven by a focus on children's rights: it's the right of every child and young person not to be bullied, and they want bullying to be seen as a rights issue, not as a normal part of growing up.

respectme is not a helpline; they provide practical advice and guidance on developing and reviewing anti-bullying policies and initiatives and identifying the best ways of putting them into practice, and they can put you in touch with other organisations who have trained counsellors you can discuss any worries with.
