MSPs in Schools A free service covering all subjects in secondary and all stages in primary. They provide resources to support learning and teaching and hold two sessions in your school.  The first, after some pre-teaching, is facilitated by a member of Outreach Services and includes a presentation to building and extend Parliamentary knowledge and the opportunity to work with a range of learning activities.  For the second session your MSPs are invited to attend and work with the students.
School Link An exciting new web based initiative, School Link has been developed for primary school children and teachers who would like to learn more about the lives of children in other countries. It provides an excellent insight into life in another part of the world. 

On the website, you can download lesson plans (developed by experienced teachers for Save the Children) and pupils can access real life stories written by the children, their everyday lives, what they do, like and think; the site also contains interactive games and background info and photographs from Pakistan.

As well as accessing creative educational resources, participating primary schools are invited to support Friendship Friday - a national fundraising event that will take place in May 2006. Really simple and easy to run, Save the Children will provide the school with all they will need to carry out the activity.

Developing the global dimension in the school curriculum

Very useful booklet from England, particularly those responsible for planning and implementing the school curriculum and training teachers.  Its purpose is to show how, in a global society, the global dimension can be integrated into both the curriculum and the wider life of schools.

Global Gateway The Global Gateway is an international website, enabling those involved in education across the world to engage in creative partnerships. It provides access to information on how to develop an international dimension to education.
BBC Scotland Citizenship website WELCOME TO INVERCLARION is BBC Scotland Education's Citizenship website. This website has been designed to help young people (ages approx 9-14) to think a bit more about what it is to be a citizen.  It looks at laws, rules, making decisions, democracy and a whole lot more.

J8 Global Citizen Programme Education Pack

The J8 Global Citizen Programme education pack for secondary schools in Scotland was launched by the Deputy Minister for Education and Young People on 17 November 2004. The pack aims to boost pupils' understanding of Scotland’s role and responsibilities within the international community.

A Consultation Audit 2002/2003 by Aberdeen City Council outline opportunities for consultation with young people

RIAC RIAC is a Socrates Comenius 3 Network which consists of 25 partners in 15 regions. The theme is Regional Identity and Active Citizenship and the work focuses on raising the awareness of the vital role of the regions in Europe within the context of European citizenship. 
21st Century Citizen

This site from the British Library provides a contemporary collection of online resources.  The site contains a rich collection of source material and supporting activities as well as the opportunities for sharing and developing local community projects. By providing students with access to original sources and teaching them how to undertake research in order to test a hypothesis, this site should empower young people to become politically literate and active citizens.

GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP IN SCHOOLS FOCUSED ON FAIR TRADE A teachers' project, enabling research and development of FAIR TRADE citizenship activities in schools.  The project is run by the Montgomery Development Education Centre with full support from Aberdeen Learning and Leisure Services.
Link Community Development LCD aims, among other things, to facilitate partnerships between European and African education sectors for mutually beneficial development and learning.
P & G Citizenship website This web-based resource produced by Proctor and Gamble is designed to support teachers and students working on Citizenship Education. The focus of the resource is showing how responsible business organisations can play an important part in the global community as good citizens.

Aberdeen Homelessness Strategy Web Site This site provides information on the homelessness strategy that has been developed by partners in Aberdeen with an interest in homelessness.  You can access documents such as aims & objectives, action plans and Scottish Executive Guidance, as well as relevant publications.

Hope and Homes Schools Pack This information pack is especially for school children aged 5 - 18 years old.  The pack is colourful, with visual aids, fundraising ideas and suggestions.   It also includes possible teaching activities, which would sit very well in a Citizenship programme   NEW - Scottish Schools Pack now available. IDEAS (International Development Education Association Scotland IDEAS is a network of people and organisations involved in development education in Scotland.  The overall goal of IDEAS is to establish the principles of development education at the heart of education policy and practice in Scotland.  
Worldaware Worldaware has a catalogue of resources to support the teaching of global citizenship and development issues at all levels of the school curriculum.  In addition to the material that is available to purchase, the site also includes information and activities to download on a range of themes.
REFUGE Teachers' resource pack A resource about refugees which contains 19 short films, a teacher's guide, lesson guidelines, worksheets etc.  The project raises questions about perceptions of refugees and asylum seekers, the role of the media, human rights and responsibilities, democracy, global interdependence, conflict resolution and different ideologies.   Produced by the Aegis Trust
Just Business The 'Just Business' web site provides information and activities about global and ethical issues for students and teachers.  Some pages, such as the Resources Catalogue, are designed primarily for teachers, but most of the website, contains source material of use both to teachers and students.

Learning for Life: Let's Celebrate Citizenship Learning for Life is a values education, life skills programme aiming to foster health, safety, personal and social development and to encourage good citizenship. This  resource for learning and teaching, bringing key social issues into the classroom, offers a continuum of learning for 5-13 year olds and comprehensive teacher support materials. Career Productions Career Productions produce resources for education for Citizenship as well as careers.  They aim to offer comprehensive resources in a format that saves valuable preparation time and helps the teacher deliver involving lessons.
OXFAM Cool Planet for Teachers Cool Planet is primarily intended for teachers in England, Scotland and Wales and their students. It aims to bring the global dimension to the classroom, using the concept of Global Citizenship.
Citizenship Website (DfES, England) This website provides information on Citizenship to support this element of the national curriculum in England.  The site has information for teachers, including teaching resources, training, development and assessment.  Students can access information about citizenship that is appropriate to their age group and there are useful links to other information.  There is also information for parents about how they can get involved in the study of citizenship.
Citizenship materials from the DfES (English curriculum) materials from the The Standards Site produced by the DfES for key stages 1-4 of the English national curriculum.
Education for Citizenship in Scotland A document (September 2000) for consultation and discussion, published by Learning and Teaching Scotland, is now in schools.  The consultation period runs until March 2001.  The document is also available on the Learning and Teaching Scotland website at http://www.ltscotland.com/citizenship/index.htm
It's All About Respect You can download this teachers' pack free.  Produced by ChildLine, it is designed to help teachers and student explore the role of respect in young people’s lives. The lesson plans use cartoon strips as a starting point.  The pack has been designed to be flexible and adaptable.
Volunteering in Education: Opportunities and Challenges Consultation paper  from Volunteer Development Scotland. The responses will be set alongside those of Learning and Teaching Scotland and Community Learning Scotland to prepare a report for the Scottish Executive ministers.
Citizenship in Schools (UNICEF) The report of the Citizenship Education Monitoring Project (you can download the document).  It is the result of the work of a baseline survey of Citizenship education, commissioned in autumn 1999.  In 2003 UNICEF will conduct another survey to see how schools have integrated Citizenship and human rights education into their curriculum.
Citizenship: UNICEF website About the teaching of citizenship and human rights.  It refers to the Citizenship curriculum in England, but much is relevant everywhere.
Council for Education in World Citizenship - Cymru (CEWC-Cymru) The Welsh counterpart of what used to be the Council for Education in World Citizenship (CEWC).  They run a programme of school events, and have also published teachers' resources for citizenship for secondary schools and, from September 2002, for primary schools. Although designed to fit in with the Welsh curriculum, they are really just as relevant to all parts of the UK - and a number of non-Welsh schools have already registered.
Council for Education in World Citizenship CEWC is an independent organisation, founded in 1939, which helps young people understand and confront global issues and challenges though education for international understanding.  Unfortunately its activities are now on hold.
Turning the news into a learning resource The CBBC Newsround Teachers area contains lesson plans for classroom teachers based on current stories from the CBBC Newsround web site.  These include literacy (ages 7-11), citizenship and PSHE (ages 11-14). Topics such as teenage stress, African famine, extreme sports are covered. All the activities are cross-referenced to the curriculum for each UK country, and offer links to other web sites.  
Citizenship for Primary Schools A series, developed by the Institute for Citizenship,  for Primary teachers involved with teaching Citizenship values.
Electoral Reform Society An organisation which campaigns for the strengthening of democracy through changes to the voting system and electoral
arrangements.
Charity Matters: resource book for teachers Produced by the Citizenship Foundation and Directory of Social Change, this is a resource pack for teachers of 14-17 year-olds. It includes photocopiable materials, teachers' notes and activities that are designed to help students understand some of the many questions arising from the work of charities.
The Citizenship Foundation An independent charity funded by grants from
charities, business, commerce, government and private donors.  Founded in 1989, it encourages understanding of the rights and duties of citizenship; participation in community and voluntary affairs;  and the provision of experiences which enable citizens to become caring, confident and effective members of society.
Introducing Citizenship into the curriculum From Schoolmanager.net - but remember this is a website for England and Wales, and the Scottish approach is sometimes a little different.
