Supporting Bereaved Young People

In January 2000 the Scottish Council for Research in Education (SCRE) began a project commissioned by The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. The purpose of the project was to produce bereavement support materials primarily for Guidance teachers but also for others working with 12-18 year olds. The project was undertaken in co-operation with the National Association of Bereavement Services (NABS) and the NABS Child and Bereavement Working Group.

Yorkhill Family Bereavement Service Based at Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow, it runs support groups for children and young adults affected by the death of someone close to them. The youngsters meet in small groups to make memory jars, ask questions, and express their feelings. For some it's a way of learning to have fun again. The service also offers individual counselling for adults after the death of a child.
